The top shot is the stronger of the two. The dragonfly seems a bit lost in the bottom. On the bottom it is cropped and the light on the upper left pulls us away from the subject.
The dragonfly doesn't jump out enough in the bottom pic to make it feel like a strong horizontal.
Thanks for the feedback, especially the audio about cropping photo #2. I wasn't sure how I felt about that one, I took it mostly because of the colors, then remembered that they have to posted in black and white. Opps.
I seem to have trouble with spacing things evenly haha
I like how in the first photo there is a bit of contrast between the vertical frame and the horizontally long wings of the dragonfly. Thinking about it, it seems like it would look weird but I think it actually works really well.
